Our Mission
HGVInsurance.co.nz exists because heavy vehicle insurance is genuinely complex — and the consequences of getting it wrong are serious. An underinsured articulated truck written off in a motorway incident, a logging operator who discovers their policy doesn't cover bush road recovery, a livestock carrier with no animal mortality cover: these are real situations that happen to real operators every year.
Our mission is simple: help HGV operators understand what they need, and connect them with the specialist brokers who can deliver it. We are not an insurer, and we are not a financial adviser. We are a specialist information and referral service — a starting point for operators who want to understand their options before they speak to a broker.
Every referral we make goes to a specialist commercial transport broker with genuine expertise in the HGV sector. We do not refer to generalist insurers or brokers for whom trucks are a sideline. Specialist knowledge matters when the vehicles are worth $300,000 and the liability exposures are measured in millions.

The Brokers We Send You To
We do not refer to whoever pays the most. A small number of brokers, chosen deliberately, against a test we can describe.
We have spoken to them
Every broker we refer to is one we have dealt with directly. The test is simple: would we be happy for a friend to ring them?
They are FSP registered
Listed on the Financial Service Providers Register, which is public. Ask any broker for their registration and check it yourself at fsp-register.companiesoffice.govt.nz.
They know heavy vehicles
Logging, tankers, heavy haulage and general freight are different risks with different wordings. We match the enquiry to someone who has written that class before.
They answer the phone
A broker who is hard to reach while you are getting a quote is a broker who will be hard to reach when a truck is off the road.
They will say no
